The Christmas of Babies

February 7th, 2012

Our Christmas this year was filled with babies, babies and more babies! Lots of  “Goo Goos” and “Gaa Gaas” to say the least. Griffin’s first Christmas was something that I have looked forward to for so long! Christmas is my favorite time of year without a doubt. Everywhere you go there is nothing but happy people, entertaining music and wonderfully cozy weather. What else could one ask for?

All year I was busy hand stitching the little guys x-mas stocking. I wanted something that looked vintage and finally found a pattern online. I can’t remember where I bought it otherwise I would post it here. If you search Amazon.com there are a ton of them. The stocking took me about 10 months to finish (working on it a bit at a time). I worked on it up until just a few days before x-mas. I didn’t think I would make it but luckily my wonderful Momma helped me finish. Whew!

Anyways, Griffin and the gang enjoyed Christmas…we will remember it forever! A big thank you to Kacy Martin for the awesome little hats featured below!

Our first family Christmas picture… Bright and early on Christmas morning. Griffin had no clue what was going on when we opened his stocking, but at least we had fun!

We are also calling this Christmas “The Teddy Bear” Christmas. Griffin was given many adorable teddy bears and I could not resist this photo opportunity. The scene was literally set for me, all I had to do was ‘insert baby’. Quite adorable, that little guy!

New Year, New Baby, New Blog

February 6th, 2012

If you haven’t noticed…there has been some SERIOUS downtime on the blog. It has been completely ignored and I apologize for that! But…at least I have good reason. Guess what happened three months ago? I had a BABY! Yahoo! Things have been a little hectic in my personal life to say the least but I am finally ready to get this blog up to speed and am excited to start the year 2012 off right (1 month late). Hopefully all of you will not mind my baby-heavy posts coming up this year. I normally don’t like to post about my personal life, but I think that was only because there wasn’t really a whole lot of excitement to post about…until NOW! So I am at least warning you ahead of time.

prego3Having a baby, I must say it is an amazing experience from the pregnancy to the delivery to the half asleep nights (and days) taking care of the little one. I absolutely loved being pregnant. I know most women can’t really say the same but for me it was so exciting and just felt so special to feel those little kicks and rolls inside me. I don’t really know how to even explain it.

I had the easiest pregnancy ever (you would think  I wasn’t even pregnant with all the weddings that I worked on). However, the easy part of my pregnancy ended at 30 weeks. At 30 weeks I woke up in the middle of the night in pre-term labor and so we frantically rushed to the hospital- scariest point in my life I think. I didn’t quite know what to think on the drive there, except please please let there be nothing wrong! I ended up staying in the hospital for a week because they wanted me to take a medicine to make my contractions stop. Luckily it worked (THANK YOU LORD). But the frustrating experience only got even more frustrating because I was put on extremely strict bed rest at home. I could only get up to use the restroom or shower. Super fun times….So that lasted 6 whole long and agonizing weeks.

On my last day of “prescribed” bed rest, wouldn’t you know it… I went into labor. Go figure… And about 26 hours, YES 26 HOURS later (4 weeks early) my sweet little baby was born. I thought the delivery would go smooth (where the heck did I get that idea in my head) but I was way wrong. I ended up with an epidural and from that point on it was pain-free, but the actual delivery was super intense.

I’ll try not to get into too many details… I pushed for about an hour without any luck, then they turned down my epidural (lucky me) and then suddenly there were about 10 doctors in the room (it felt like 20). About an hour and a half more of pushing…..and still no baby. Then they brought in the NICU people, the Operating Room people, the pediatrician, I think there was a couple nurses, and even a student doctor, plus my family (with a camera). It was quite hectic. My baby seemed to be in distress so the doctor gave me 3 pushes to get him out before they had to roll me into the operating room for a c-section. I guess suddenly my will power kicked in because I DID NOT want a c-section. So with a vacuum assist I was able to deliver I think on the second try. Whew! That wasn’t too gory for you was it?

The scary part of the experience came after the delivery when my little baby was rushed to the NICU. They put him on a breathing tube and ventilator but luckily that lasted only until the next morning. He spent about 5 days in the NICU because he had jaundice and just needed to be monitored. We took our little orange pumpkin home on Halloween night with no costume needed (I’m not exaggerating. He was really orange from the jaundice!), and I (the milk maid) and my husband (the zombie) did not need a costume either.

born

I am really happy to say that he is a very happy and healthy little boy, 3 months old now! He only has one health condition which is supposed to go away by 6-12 months old. It’s called laryngomalacia. It’s a big scary word for his larynx (voice box) not being fully developed yet. So the only thing that we are dealing with now is a really noisy baby. He breathes really really loud, day and night. But that’s okay, I’m used to it now.

Here is a little peak  at my little guy at one month. I hope you enjoy future posts about him….there might be quite a few!

Check back tomorrow too for a picture heavy post from Christmas that I have been wanting to share. And then after that it’s back to weddings… I promise!

Chyba the Military Dog – Special Memorial Service

August 31st, 2011

Military working dog Chyba passed away from pancreatic cancer on Saturday July 30th, 2011 she was 12 years old. MWD Chyba lived a long and heroic life, completing multiple combat tours with the U.S. military. She was the inspiration behind the monument at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas, Ca.

We were asked to create a floral arrangement in honor of Chyba and we were completely honored. We wish Chyba’s owner Madeleine Pickens (http://www.madeleinepickens.com) and loved ones only the best.

Baby Shower Floral Design

July 7th, 2011

We not only do weddings but also other special events like baby showers, birthday parties, bridal showers, Christmas parties, etc.

Check out this adorable baby shower held last year for sweet little Baby Trenton David. The nursery colors were to be green with accents of black and white so we thought it would only make sense to add that into the floral designs.
